Mastalgia is the medical term for breast pain and refers to any area or areas of tenderness, discomfort or pain in one or both breasts. It can occur for many different reasons. Breast cancer does not commonly present with breast pain, but occasionally it may do so- therefore it is important to have mastalgia assessed by a doctor without delay-particularly if the pain is new or is not settling.
