A fibroadenoma is a type of benign (non cancerous) breast lump. Fibroadenomas are very common. They tend to feel like a smooth firm rounded lump, that often moves around under the fingers when pressed. They are usually painless. Fibroadenomas do not usually need to be removed, unless they get very big and/or cause discomfort. A doctor can usually make the diagnosis by asking some questions, performing a physical examination and getting a scan of the breast. If there is any doubt about the diagnosis, a biopsy  or specialist opinion may also be advised.
